Camouflage

Camo is the word of the day today because it relates to a few different aspects of my life as of right now.
This video just fits in well:)

This weekend, we're planning on heading down to LJS for some fishing, fall deer scouting and to get my tan on. It's suppose to be around 90 on Sunday, so I'm actually kind of excited about that. I'm just not looking forward to the nasty ticks that seem to follow me everywhere! Yuck! Seriously, what purpose to those blood-sucking things have in this ecosystem?!

Then, Jake called me today about an opportunity he's working on for his blog. He's talked to a few different important people in the hunting world and it's exciting what might come end up developing. I'll keep you posted on that. By the way, if you don't follow his blog, check it out at www.bonesnbroadheads.com.

Then, it just so happens that I ran across this website today that I had to share with you. The website is called Camo Ring. At first I got a giggle out of the rings, but the more I looked at them, they're actually pretty cool. I know of quite a few people who might have bought these rings for their wedding day. You just don't see these at your local Roger's or Jared's...

So, if you dig these rings, you'll love this purse called "Big Buck Down" on www.KrazyCowgirl.com. The two would go great together:) Check it out!

Dresser Dilemma

The latest swear word at our home has been "dresser". It's been a discussion for some time now and I finally did something about it.

We've been in the market for a dresser for the baby's room. We did some scoping out and I decided that I refuse to spend a bunch of money on a nice dresser. So, after checking out Homemakers a couple of times, we scouted the Waukee area garage sales for some type of dresser. Not only did we not find any, we nearly got into a divorce deciding what to do. Jake's idea weeks ago was to take this old nasty dresser, which I completely forgot we had, and move that into the baby's room. Of course, I threw a fit because as you can see from the picture below (sorry for cutting it off), it's pretty ugly. The doors have never closed right, the color is weird (especially next to our new Espresso colored baby bed) and then what would Jake do with his undies?

Right before Jake and I got married, his folks bought us a really nice bedroom set, but because I have a plethora of t-shirts and other essentials, Jake has to put his socks and unmentionables in this hidious monster which is stuck in our walk-in closet.

To make a long story short, I came to my senses and decided last week that this dresser would work, but only if I could not only paint this, but also paint this cheap bookshelf that is currently in the baby's room. For Jake's things... I would buy his plastic totes from Walmart.

Now the book shelf is it's own ordeal becuase it's yet another shade of brown and it's made out a laminant- virtually, it's cardboard. So ladies, you can see my delema. Not only do I have now two pieces of appaling furniture, I have three different colors of brown "wood" in that room.

So, I got on trusty ol' You Tube and figured something out. I found this page that was an easy how-to in making furniture look rustic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VXIj2yMnTk.  I thought it was worth a shot and by gosh, she worked!
I was actually so impressed how both pieces turned out that I'd love to do this with other things! It would be fun to paint two different colors and then sand off.  How pretty would like a bright turquoise with yellow or red underneath look?

So all I did was buy some off-white spray paint, so I could match with that room's trim. After drying for about an hour, we took sandpaper and sanded away! We tried to be cognisant of where wear marks would be (handle area, ends, etc.). For the dresser, I then bought some new handles and whola! In the end, I also figured out that this dresser was not in as bad shape as I originally thought. Apparently we just didn't' have the drawers in correctly.

Once we get more of the room together, I'll show you a couple of other things that I've made, but right now, that room is a disaster, so I need to make it more "photo ready" before I post:).

What's Cool

I'll tell you what's cool.. the Kentucky Headhunters. Where in the heck have they been all of these years? If you're not familiar (or probably under 35), they're an awesome country-rock band. I remember listening to them when I was younger and now that I listen to Pandora Radio everyday at work, I decided to put them in my search. Gosh, I forgot how awesome they were. Cross Canadian Ragweed reminds me a ton of their style, if you know them. I happened to get on their website today and seen that they're coming to Iowa in July! I would love to take them in.
Other cool things:
Cash Mobs- I first heard of it on the Today Show the other morning. You know about Flash Mobs- people in a public place that just break out in a choreographed dance? Well, a Cash Mob is similar, yet no dancing. All at one time, a group of people show up at a local business and spend money. I love this idea! Do you think I could have a Cash Mob at my house and have people buy my Krazy Cowgirl stuff that's in tubs in my basement?

CyHawk Trophy- For those of you not from Iowa, you may not be aware of the insane rivalry between Iowa Start University and that other Iowa school... (University of Iowa). To some up what the CyHawk Trophy is, it's obviously the trophy that goes to the school that wins this heated football game every year. Why it's specifically cool, is that this year my brother, John (Kettle) had one of the renderings for the new trophy! This was a huge honor. His was #2. Although it looks as though the #1 may pull through in the end, it's still pretty stinkin cool. Check out his stuff here.
This is one John's recent works that he sold. Not the psychedelic flowers in the back, but the three-piece painting.

Jaco Brands- This is the hottest brand right now in the rodeo world. They are unique because they have a cool look about their tack. It's a printed, vintage look. I'm sure we're going to see a lot more of this type of style in the next year or so from other companies. I don't personally have any of their stuff, but I wonder how that look holds up, because I think it's just sprayed on, not etched in the leather. Either way, it's neat stuff.

Have a great week everybody!
